Career highlights:
  • 20th place finish at Barton Park (Beginner CAT).
  • 32:40 10K PR (although that was 20 years ago).
  • Did my first Hood 2 Coast in 2005, running the longest leg.  It won't be the last...

  2007 Goals:
  • Train for and finish IM Canada; Pacific Crest Half; Blue Lake Olympic
  • Improve swimming, cycling and running technique and speed to achieve above
  • Keep a balance between working, training, my husband and two teenage sons
  • Have fun, think positive

Career highlights:
  • Completed 5 marathons
  •  Completed Pacific Crest Half 2002
  • Completed 3 Cycle Oregons
  • Many Hood to Coast runs
  • Rode with George Hincapie (even got an email from him).
Luis Valls, MD- Cyclist. Portland, OR
    2007 Goals:
  • Place top 3 in the Masters division
  • Improve climbing
  • Regain fitness lost in mid-summer burn-out
  • Be competitive in the 50+ age category in local road races.
  • Work on sprinting.

Career highlights:
  • Two back-to-back wins at Mt Tabor, both in solo breaks.
  • 4th Silverton RR (2006)
  • An OLD win long ago at a road race in La Grande, OR.

Maureen Kavanagh - Triathlete. Portland, OR
     
2006 SEASON

  2006 Goals:
  • Place in my age division at an Olympic Tri.
  • Shave 30 seconds off my run pace, add 2mph to my bike pace, and complete an Olympic distance open water swim in 20 minutes
  • Continually work to achieve my full potential as an athlete, wife, and business woman.
  • Not going head over handlebars on my bike (again).

Career highlights:
  • Placing in my age group at numerous running events including 5th at the hippie chick half marathon.
  • Working with Julie and seeing major improvements in all of my splits from last year while not feeling overtrained!
  • Living and competing as a triathlete while having no athletic history prior to the age of 25.
Angela Shields - Triathlete & Runner. Vancouver, WA
  2006 Goals:
  • Prepare for & race Pac Crest and Vineman 1/2 IM
  • Qualify for the 1/2 IM 70.3 Series
  • Place top ten women in short course Tris/Dus
  • Train for and finish a 2007 IM balancing 2 kids and a fellow triathlete husband
  • Be an inspiration for my 2 girls and other mothers.

Career highlights:
  • Birthing two beautiful girls
  • Qualified for Boston marathon
  • Raced in 6 marathons
  • Top age group finisher in local Tris/Dus.
Beth Herman - Triathlete, Time Trialist. Portland, OR

  2006 Goals:
  • Regain overall fitness without injury. 
  • Gain fitness that benefits cycling (e.g. anaerobic)
  • Improve tactics in road racing events.
  • Improve placing in Mt. Tabor Series.
  • Finish higher in my Cyclocross category.

Career highlights:

  • Once being mistaken for George Hincapie.
Darin Shields- Triathlete & Runner. Vancouver, WA
  2006 Goals:
  • Inspire my family, my friends and my community to live a fun, healthy life.  
  • Continue to improve my fitness to complete and compete in IM distance races in 2007 and 2008
  • Be a competitor at ½ IM distance races at Pacific Crest, Vineman and hopefully the 70.3 Championship in Florida
  • Continue to enjoy racing the local events like Blue Lake , Hagg Lake , Duel in the Desert, Rose Festival Duathlon, etc.
  • Understand how to train using heart rate, nutrition and rest.
  • Lastly, not get beat by my wife Angela and Linnea whom are both awesome athletes.

Career highlights:
  • Old School stuff: Did my first triathlon in 1985, rode Cat 2 in the late 80’s early 90’s, held the Central Oregon TT record for 10 minutes until it was broken by Alexi Greywall, wrecked a lot of bikes.
  • Qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon in 2006
  • Several top finishes in 2005 Duathlon season with one win at BlackDiamond
  • Being a successful father, husband, employee and athlete all at the same time.
  • Being chased through airports by people who think I am Sean Penn.
Dave Lowe - Triathlete. Portland, OR
    2006 Goals:
  • Finish an IM: finished IMAZ albeit not comfortably.
  • Improve my swimming.
  • Improve my cycling, strength and skills.
  • Learn more about the sport of triathlon.
  • Finish IMCanada comfortably.

Career highlights:
  • Finished 1st triathlon, sprint distance, spring of 2005.
  • Finished IMAZ, spring 2006.
  • Ran since early 80's with PR's of 2:40 for the marathon (Boston) and 1:14 for half-marathon (Philadelphia).
  • 1991 and 1992 Masters Runner of the Year, Baltimore Road Runners.
  • 2001 Masters Runner of the Year, Montgomery County Road Runners.
David Peacock - Triathlete. Portland, OR
    2006 Goals:
  • Improve swim speed
  • Finish a 200 mile one day ride.
  • Complete a Marathon
  • Race an Olympic distance Triathlon
  • Plan for a Half Iron to be completed next year
  • Find proper balance in training, family, work and other pursuits

Career highlights:
  • Finished Rose festival Duathlon in 2005.  First multisport event ever.
  • Finished California 's "Death ride"
  • Training with and being inspired by Julie's athletes

Eric Kimble - Triathlete. Vancouver, WA
   

2006 Goals:

  • Complete Ironman Distance race without visiting med tent.
  • Increase overall fitness .
  • Learn to run like a gazell not a charging rhino
  • Expose myself to new experiences through training and racing.

Career highlights:
  • Successfull finish at Black Diamond Half Ironman
  • Climbed Mt Ranier, Mt Baker and Mt Adams
Erica Nelson - Triathlete. WA
    2006 Goals:
  • Finish my first IM (Vineman) August 12
  • Challenge my body and mind to new limits
  • Stay enthused, focused and balanced through the training season
  • Keep up with my 64 year old training partner, Bill Mellow (aka "Shirtman")
  • Add speed work to my endurance training and race cross.
  • Mtn. bike the Continental Divide through Wyoming in September.

Career highlights:
  • Finishing Wildflower Half IM.
  • Training and preparing for Smokejumping.
Gary Medley - Cyclist. Portland, OR
  2006 Goals:
  • Finish a road race – any road race with a hill, that is – in the peloton.
  • Finish a Mt. Tabor race within sight of the peloton
  • Improve pain threshold, i.e. anaerobic endurance and lactate tolerance.
  • Improve my leisurely time in the Larch Mt. TT
  • Win a sprint -  Hot Spot or final lap – at PIR
  • Improve cyclocross skills from pre-Beginner to Beginner
  • Convice myself I'm a real bike racer (see goal #1)

Career highlights:
  • Finishing any Wed am. ride led by Ms. Browning
  • Finishing any lactate tolerance interval set devised by Ms. Browning
  • Finishing 21st overall in 2005 OBRA BAR, Cat 4 - out of 650.  (Yes, 90 percent of life is showing up.)
  • Placing 5th in May 2005 Points at PIR/Tuesday night Cat 4/5
  • Surviving the 2005 Swan Island Crit in one piece
  • Placing 3rd at Mt. Tabor Circuit Race in the hotly-contested Novice/Cat 5 (out of five)
  • Racing...period.
Keith Hansen - Cyclist, Triathlete. Portland, OR
    2006 Goals:
  • Improve cycling efficiency
  • Incorporate alternate training
  • Sub 4 hour Century
  • Sub 3:30 hr marathon
  • Compete in a Triathlon

Career highlights:
  • Cycling (completed 8 centuries and one double century)
  • Completed 1 marathon and 6 half marathons.

  • Loose weight 
  • Prepare for IM Coeur d'Alene in June 06

Linnea Alvord - Triathlete. Portland, OR

  • Move from successful Olympic distance racing to Half IM and International competition
  • Qualify for 70.3 Ironman World Championships
  • 30 minute Swim split at Half IM
  • Gain product sponsorship
  • Grow Portland Triathlon Club to leading local tri club; strengthen local triathlon scene

Career highlights:
  • Surviving my first Olympic distance swim course (Pacific Crest, Sunriver, OR)
  • Standing on the podium at my first Half IM and knowing a lot of people in the room
  • Inspiring people to participate in the triathlon life and encourage others’ sporting experiences
  • Qualified for 2005 ITU World Championships in Short Course Triathlon
  • Qualified for 2005 ITU World Championships in Short Course Duathlon
  • 2005 USAT Overall Ranking: 171
  • 2005 USAT Pacific NorthWest Regional Short Course Champion
  • Awarded Multnomah Athletic Club athlete membership
