Biomechanical Evaluation & Gait Analysis |
DeeAnn Dougherty is a local physical therapist, athlete, running coach, and yoga teacher. She is offering two services to Breakaway Training athletes:
Biomechanical Evaluation and Treatment
Repetitive training such as running and cycling, often lead to muscular strength and flexibility imbalances. An example of this would be a cyclist’s quadriceps muscles (front of thigh) becoming highly developed, and the smaller stabilizing muscles like the adductors and abductors (inner and outer thigh) becoming weak in comparison. Similarly, this imbalance can exist in terms of flexibility, where a runner’s calves and hamstrings become very tight and strong while the quadriceps becomes relatively weak. Persistent training can drive these imbalances to the point of injury.
A biomechanical evaluation will help identify any imbalances an athlete has in terms of alignment, flexibility and strength. Specific stretches and strengthening exercises will be recommended to help minimize and correct these imbalances.
Cost:
$125 for a 60 minute session if health insurance is billed. 20% cash discount
Running Gait Analysis
Gait analysis will reveal any faults in running form. These can then be addressed by practicing specific running technique drills. Consistent practice of drills will assist in improving the runner’s overall athleticism, improving strength, flexibility and balance. Also offered will be advice on running shoe selection. Matching the correct shoe to a runner’s foot is one of the the most effective ways of reducing the risk of injury.
A full Biomechanical Evaluation is required before performing a running gait analysis.
Cost:
$50 for a 30 minute session if health insurance is billed. 20% cash discount.
