'The Red Js’ Cycling

The Red J's are Julie and Joanne, two experienced coaches living and playing in the Pacific Northwest. We specialize in offering road, gravel and mountain bike camps and clinics for women. We select venues and routes that inspire us to be out on our bikes. Our camps are more than just riding. They provide instruction, learning and coaching in a supportive environment. We can't wait to ride with you!

Women's Portland Gravel Cycling Weekend

This is a mix of instruction, coaching and riding, and is best for riders who are new to gravel or have some experience but want to learn more to take their gravel riding to the next level. Bring your gravel bike and join us for rides out of Scappoose and North Plains, Oregon. We are offering two rides each day: a beginner ride (2-3 hrs) and an intermediate ride (3-4 hrs). Each will be limited to 10 riders.

DATES:

June 2-4th, 2023.

Friday June 2nd:

  • 6pm Meet and Greet at Cyclepath

Saturday June 3rd:

  • 10am Scappoose

Sunday June 4th:

  • 10am North Plains

Sunday June 4th:

  • Post-ride: raffle and gear swap

COST:

$195 per person.

If you are coming to gravel riding from road riding, it can be intimidating and scary. We get it (both Joanna and Julie come from a road riding background). The technique to ride your gravel bike isn't always going to be the same as riding your road bike, and it might not feel intuitive. Let us help you gain confidence on the gravel, and feel like you are taking the bike for a ride, not the other way around. We will share with you riding technique, safety tips, how to be prepared, what to carry with you, and the importance of navigation. Bring your sense of adventure and join us! We can't wait to ride with you.

CLINIC BENEFITS:

  • Ride with experienced USA Cycling certified coaches

  • Be supported by a sweep rider

  • No-one left behind policy

  • Opportunity for 1:1 learning and Q&A

Julie Browning and Joanne Eastwood met over 25 years ago, both new to road racing and found themselves on the same team: Team Oregon.

It was the start of a friendship that goes beyond racing bikes: they are two red headed girls from England who have been racing not only bikes, but also as triathletes at an elite level, and then turned this passion into a coaching business to help others chase their athletic dreams.

It was a natural step for Julie and Joanne to partner to offer 'The Red Js' cycling camps and clinics.
